Oregon PSR co-sponsors- Painful Odyssey-featuring Brian Wilson. Painful Odyssey is a speaking event featuring long time peace and social justice activist Brian Willson. Brian is a Vietnam veteran who has dedicated his life to "non-violent activism against Empire." In 1986, he was run over by a munitions train while protesting the murderous US involvement in Latin America, particularly Nicaragua. Brian lost his legs as a result of this horrific incident, but he has continued to struggle for peace and social justice in Latin America and the world. He is a powerful and inspiring speaker. Brian will be joined at the event by Gerry Condon and Benji Lewis, representing Veterans for Peace (VFP) and Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW).
This event will raise money for a delegation to hold a Winter Soldier Hearing in Venezuela featuring IVAW member Benji Lewis, VFP-Seattle member Gerry Condon, members of the Venezuelan Military, and Portland peace delegates. There will be a media team to document delegates meetings with various community organizations and the Winter Soldier Venezuela Hearing. There is a possible audience being arranged with President Hugo Chavez and the delegation.
Thursday, July 23, 2009 7-10 pm at the First Unitarian Church, 1211 SW Main Street, Portland, OR 97205
