DEQ Hearing on PGE coal Plant

Please attend DEQ meeting regarding pollution at PGE’s Boardman Coal Plant

The Oregon DEQ has released a pollution reduction plan for Boardman that is wholly inadequate and completely dismisses the 1300 comments submitted last year from concerned citizens, organizations and government agencies supporting strong pollution standards in a timely manner on PGE’s Boardman coal plant.

Show your support for protecting our beautiful places and for a clean energy future! Join us for a public meeting regarding this decision on Friday, June 19th at 9-9:30 am at the DEQ headquarters located at 811 SW Sixth Ave. , Portland .

The plan fails to protect the region from blighting haze despite requiring investments in hundreds of millions of dollars in new technology, and ignores the long term consequences of continuing to burn coal. Oregon DEQ’s plan completely fails to address the global warming implications of PGE’s continued reliance on dirty coal. In fact, the plan will likely encourage PGE to keep Boardman running long into the future. Oregonians deserve a coal-free, clean energy future, not state encouragement of continued reliance on coal power

PGE is at a crossroads of decisions about whether to pour money into an old, inefficient power plant that will not meet the challenges of the future, or to provide leadership and embrace advanced technologies to guide us forward. The DEQ can give PGE a unique opportunity to shut down Oregon ’s only dirty coal-fired power plant and replace it with cost effective and reliable energy efficiency and renewable technologies. The best way to address pollution from PGE Boardman is to shut it down.
